Lexus Updates GX Model, Modernizes Tech

The current generation Lexus GX, with its roots planted in 2009, has gotten almost archaic by today’s standards. It’s among the last true SUVs you can buy, featuring a large V8 paired with body on frame construction. Likewise, its tech was also getting to be outdated. Luckily, Lexus has addressed that with an all-new infotainment system, new standard convenience features, and a new appearance package for the 2022 model year.

Perhaps the most important update to the GX is the ditching of the old infotainment system from the 2000s for a more contemporary one. Featuring a larger, 10.3 inch display, the GX is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. Besides that, the 2022 GX gets intuitive parking assist, power heated mirrors, and navigation as standard options.

In addition to updated tech and standard features, the 2022 GX receives a new Black Line edition that features cosmetic enhancements such as glossy black 18-inch wheels, darkened chrome grille surround, Black Line front and rear bumper accents, Garnet Red taillamps, black roof rails, and body-colored door handles. Starfire Pearl, Black Onyx and Nori Green Pearl join the roster of colors.

Lexus has not provided any exact release date nor starting price, but we expect it to be similar to the current price offered. We appreciate Lexus taking the time to update an aging model for the modern era. There’s still a huge appeal for classic SUVs such as the GX due to their ruggedness and versatility. Coupled with Lexus’ reputation for refinement, the GX could continue to be a hit for years to come.
